In Italy, a Russian spy was sentenced to 30 years in jail

A military court in Rome sentenced Italian Navy officer Walter Biota to 30 years in prison for espionage on behalf of Russia. He had passed the secret documents of NATO to Russians in exchange for a reward. The prosecution side sought life imprisonment for him.

The Italian approach towards Russia turned out to be a complete failure. Despite the fact that in October 2022, after the results of parliamentary elections, the representative of the right-wing party "Brothers of Italy" George Meloni became Prime Minister, the country's position regarding Russian aggression in Ukraine remained unchanged. Unlike right-wing politicians in some European countries (especially in Germany, where "Alternative for Germany" takes a clear pro-Russian stance), Meloni consistently expresses support for Ukraine.
