The Kremlin is trying to show the termination of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra rental agreement with the Moscow Patriarchate who denounces contract terms as a "violation of religious rights"

Sergei Lavrov sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and current OSCE head Burhan Osmang, in connection with "violations of universally recognized and constitutional rights of Orthodox believers in Ukraine". The head of Russia's Foreign Ministry called on the UN Secretary-General and the OSCE Chairman to demand from Kyiv not to allow forcible eviction of clerics from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

The government commission that worked at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra revealed numerous violations in the financial activity of the monastery. An interdepartmental working group created by the government for the proposals preparation regarding activities related to religious organizations simply had no choice but recommend the Ministry of Culture terminate the lease agreement for use of facilities at National Reserve of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Attempts by Russia to utilize this incident for propaganda purposes were expected, however unlikely productive.
