The draft law submitted to the State Duma proposes to increase the conscription age in Russia to 30 years

From 2024, men aged 18 to 30 will be called up for service in the military, and from 2025 - from 20 to 30. Starting from 2025, men aged 21-30 will be called up for service.

Increasing the recruitment age for conscripts is a sign that they lack personnel in regular army units of the Russian Federation, all caused by the mass departures of contract servicemen during the war with Ukraine. At first, conscripts are planned to replace personnel in permanent deployment sites. After undergoing training, conscripts will be voluntarily-obligatorily transferred to contracts for relocation to the combat zone. Such an algorithm for replenishing reserves for the Russian military-political leadership is considered to be less dangerous in social terms, rather than conducting additional waves of mobilization.
