The Ecumenical Patriarch has accused clerics of the ROC of inciting the war

On Wednesday, the Ecumenical Patriarch accused the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) clergy of inciting the war. The Patriarch believes the Russian government is "using the church as an instrument to achieve its political goals". He specified in his speech, that he is ready to participate in what he called the post-war spiritual regeneration of Russia.

The statement is essential in the context of the recent international excitation caused by Russian propaganda, regarding the termination of the lease agreement for the Patriarchal premises of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve. The lease was terminated due to numerous violations by the lessees - an interdepartmental commission found 36 commercial and economic facilities built illegally on the territory of Kyiv-Pechersky Lavra. The ROC is trying to grant visibility to this fact based on religious grounds.
